ITINERARY:
Day 1 : Arrival at Bagdogra – Drive to Gangtok
Arrive at Bagdogra Airport and drive to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The journey (125 km / 4.5–5 hours) winds through lush foothills and alongside the River Teesta. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax. In the evening, stroll along MG Marg, a pedestrian-friendly zone lined with cafes and shops. Enjoy a warm bowl of thukpa or momos to kick-start your Himalayan adventure. Overnight stay in Gangtok (3 nights).
Day 2 : Explore Gangtok – Monasteries & Views
Begin your day with a visit to Tashi View Point for stunning sunrise views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Next, visit the Enchey Monastery, known for its peaceful aura and spiritual significance. Head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and Do Drul Chorten Stupa to delve into Sikkimese and Tibetan culture. End the day with a cable car ride over the city. Gangtok’s mix of culture, scenery, and vibrant life creates a perfect introduction to Sikkim.
Day 3 : Day Trip to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir
After breakfast, take a day trip to the breathtaking Tsomgo Lake (40 km / ~2 hours), a glacial lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The drive offers dramatic mountain vistas. Visit the revered Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir nearby. If weather and permits allow, continue to Nathula Pass, the historic Indo-China border. Return to Gangtok by evening for a relaxing dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Gangtok.
Day 4 : Gangtok to Lachung – Journey to North Sikkim
Distance: 115 km / Time: ~6 hours
Depart for Lachung, a picturesque village in North Sikkim. The scenic drive follows the Teesta and Lachung Rivers through alpine forests and waterfalls. En route, stop at Seven Sisters Waterfall and Naga Falls. Reach Lachung by late afternoon and settle into a cozy guesthouse or hotel. Surrounded by mountains and clear skies, Lachung is a peaceful retreat. Overnight stay in Lachung (2 nights).
Day 5 : Excursion to Yumthang Valley
After an early breakfast, drive to the stunning Yumthang Valley (25 km / ~1.5 hours), known as the Valley of Flowers. In spring, it's a riot of colors; in winter, a serene snow-covered paradise. Visit the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary and take a dip in the Yumthang Hot Springs. If roads permit, continue to Zero Point, where the road ends amid snow-clad peaks. Return to Lachung by afternoon for a peaceful evening.
Day 6 : Lachung to Pelling – The Hidden Gem
Distance: 150 km / Time: ~7 hours
Drive to Pelling, a quieter hill town known for its panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range. The route offers scenic landscapes and glimpses of Sikkim’s village life. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and rest. In the evening, visit the Pelling Skywalk, India’s first glass skywalk, offering incredible views of the Chenrezig Statue and surrounding hills. Overnight stay in Pelling (2 nights).
Day 7 : Explore Pelling – Monasteries & Waterfalls
Begin your day with a visit to the sacred Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest in Sikkim. Then, explore the ruins of Rabdentse, once the capital of the kingdom of Sikkim. Continue to Khecheopalri Lake, a serene and sacred lake believed to fulfill wishes. Wrap up the day with visits to Rimbi and Kanchenjunga Falls, where you can soak in the natural beauty. Return to Pelling for a restful evening.
Day 8: Pelling to Bagdogra via Namchi
Distance: 140 km / Time: ~6 hours
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Bagdogra. En route, stop at Namchi, famous for the Char Dham pilgrimage site and the towering Guru Padmasambhava Statue at Samdruptse Hill. Enjoy panoramic views and a peaceful ambiance. Continue the drive through lush tea gardens and riverside roads. Arrive in Bagdogra by evening and check into a nearby hotel for the night. Overnight stay in Bagdogra (1 night).
Day 9: Departure from Bagdogra
After breakfast, transfer to Bagdogra Airport for your flight. As you depart, reflect on the snow-capped peaks, vibrant monasteries, and warm-hearted people that made your journey through Sikkim unforgettable.
